From the womb of our efforts to diversify the taste of Lebanese wine, the selection of Les Raretés was born. It comprises varietals that are solely planted in Lebanon by Karam Wines; undoubtedly others will follow suit. Their scarcity earned them their name: Les Raretés. –Captain Habib Karam

Why Touriga Nacional?

In Captain Karam’s endless educational travels to winemaking countries and its different regions,he discovered Touriga Nacional. He found this varietal to be quite singular and thought it would thrive in the Jezzine terroir. Years after planting Touriga in Lebanon, numerous tastings confirmed the Captain’s gut feeling.

Winemaking & Tasting Notes

Expressiveness, aromatic diversity and good ageing potential drove us to plant the Touriga Nacional. Grown on 1,100-meter plots facing the Mediterranean, this low yield Touriga was vinified and aged in oak barrels for only six
months to create a good balance of fruit, oak and to maintain soft tannins. In Lebanon Jezzine’s terroir, it produces violet floral aromas, supported by blackcurrant, cherry, dark chocolate and spice in the background. Silkiness on entry to the palate, noticeable structure and a burst of dark fruit culminating with rounded acidity and
long lasting minerality.

Winemaking: The grapes are manually harvested, totally stemmed and transferred to tank in order to achieve the alcoholic fermentation. The Cinsault is shortly vatted to keep the freshness, the Syrah and Mourvedre are kept for a longer time to extract the aroma and spices, and the Cabernet-Sauvignon undergoes long skin contact to express length and elegance. The free flowing and press wine achieve the malolactic fermentation in different vats.

Maturing: The grape varietals are matured separately in vats for 14 to 18 months before being blended, fined and bottled. Taste: Its bright intense ruby red colour, with an exotic fruity aroma along with spicy and licorice notes make it a wine to remember. The mellow and supple tannins produce a persisting length on the Palate Ageing It can be drunk upon purchase or kept for 2 to 3 years in a good cellar.

Serving: Its easy flowing taste suits daily consumption and goes along very well with leg of lamb and stew

Chateau Ksara's Merwah is a profound and ancient expression of Lebanon's formidable terroir. Made from 60-year-old vines, grown on the terraced hill of the tiny, North Lebanese village of Douma at over 1,500 meters, giving freshness and flavor intensity to the fruit. It is hand harvested at very low yields in the mid-October and vinified with minimal intervention.

The Merwah's rounded character and inherent complexity allows it to be enjoyed alone or with food.

Named after François-Eugène Brun, Arak Brun might be the world’s most famous arak! Its production has been uninterrupted since the inception of the winery in 1868. It is made from the alcohol of estate grown Obeidi and Cinsault grapes, harvested at optimum ripeness, and blended with fresh anise. Since 2015, Domaine des Tourelles grows its own anise in Deir el Ahmar, a village in the district of Baalbek. Their arak is produced inside a hundred-year-old cellar, processed traditionally using a three-stage distillation in traditional alembics, and aged in clay jars.

Arak is not sweetened.

Serve with water – ice can be added.

The arak of Chateau Ksara is a truly authentic expression of Lebanon's traditional, anise-flavored spirit.

It is produced in a specially-designed alembic still using an innovative technique to assure that only the heart of the distillate, the real "pure flower", is used. Finally, following ancestral norms, Ksarak is matured for two years in clay jars from Beit Chebab before it is at last ready for consumption.

Arak Brun Reserve Special 5 years from the Domaine des Tourelles winery is an aniseed, distilled and colorless alcoholic beverage produced in Lebanon. It is obtained from a 3-stage distillation, before aging in bar jars for 5 years.
